Latest Rams News
Ty Simpson : Will compete for backup role
Rams coach Sean McVay said after the Rams drafted Simpson 13th overall Thursday that the rookie quarterback out of Alabama will compete with Stetson Bennett for the backup quarterback role, Sarah Barshop of ESPN.com reports. The Rams drafted Simpson with an eye on the future, but Los Angeles remains focused on winning in the moment with 38-year-old Matthew Stafford locked in as the starting quarterback. Simpson, who made only 15 starts in college, should benefit from sitting behind Stafford, but the rookie first-round pick won't have the second spot on the depth chart handed to him. The Rams will likely use training camp and the preseason to evaluate whether Simpson or the 2023 fourth-round pick Bennett will go into the season as Stafford's top backup.
Xavier Smith : Signs tender with Rams
Smith signed his exclusive-rights tender with the Rams on Monday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. Smith signed a $1.075 million tender to remain with the Rams in 2026. The depth wide receiver is all set to suit up as a special teams player who also can provide offensive utility for quarterback Matthew Stafford. Smith hauled in 18 receptions for 303 yards over 16 regular-season contests in 2025, a significant improvement from his two receptions for six yards in the Rams' 2024 campaign.
Matthew Stafford : Closing in on new extension
Stafford and the Rams are progressing toward a new contract extension, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Stafford may not attend all offseason activities until a new extension is finalized by the sound of things, though Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register reports that the age-38 QB is present for the start of Los Angeles' voluntary workout program Monday. Of course, with Stafford coming off an MVP season in which he threw a career-high 46 TDs to go with 4,707 passing yards, there's little reason to be concerned about rust. His current deal runs through the 2026 season, though head coach Sean McVay expressed optimism earlier this offseason that Stafford could extend his career beyond this upcoming campaign. Meanwhile, star wideout Puka Nacua is attending voluntary workouts after having checked into a rehab facility in March.
Puka Nacua : Present for voluntary workouts
Nacua is participating in the start of the Rams' voluntary offseason workouts Monday, Gary Klein of the Los Angeles Times reports. Nacua checked into a rehab facility in March and now is back at team facilities and participating in strength and conditioning with teammates. The All-Pro wideout, who led the NFL with 129 receptions across his 17 regular-season appearances in 2025 while totaling a career-high 1,715 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns, is entering the final year of his rookie contract. That makes the 24-year-old eligible for an extension, the likes of which could rival the four-year, $168.6 million deal fellow 2023 draftee Jaxon Smith-Njigba received from Seattle earlier this offseason, though Nacua's off-field circumstances may complicate negotiations, per the Los Angeles Times. A civil lawsuit was filed against Nacua in March, stemming from a Dec. 31, 2025 incident. Head coach Sean McVay said in late March that the team's "expectations" are that "this will be an opportunity for [Nacua] to learn and grow, and we are hopeful that he's a Ram for a really long time."
Puka Nacua : Checks into rehab facility
Nacua's attorney confirmed this week that the star wide receiver has checked into a rehab facility in Malibu, Cali., Edward Lewis of the California Post reports. Nacua has been in the news for the wrong reasons since the Rams' season came to an end in the NFC Championship Game against the Seahawks back in January. He was accused of biting a woman during a Dec. 31 night out in Los Angeles after consuming alcohol. The woman then pressed charges against Nacua, who has since checked into a recovery center. "He is committed to using this time constructively so that he can return in the best possible position - both personally and professionally - to continue contributing to his team and the game he loves," Nacua's lawyer, Levi McCathern, said via Steve Wyche of NFL Network. "He will complete the program in time to fully participate in all of the Rams' OTAs. Puka is also deeply grateful for the support he has received from his family, friends, coach [Sean] McVay and teammates."
Ronnie Rivers : Back with Rams
The Rams re-signed Rivers to a one-year deal Wednesday, Stu Jackson of the team's official site reports. During the 2025 regular season, Rivers recorded 46 yards on nine carries over 11 games while also returning 16 kicks for 418 yards. Now that he's back in the fold for a fifth season with the Rams, Rivers should continue to work in a similar role as a special-teamer who provides depth to a backfield that also includes Kyren Williams, Blake Corum and Jarquez Hunter.
Larrell Murchison : Back with Los Angeles
The Rams re-signed Murchison to a one-year contract Monday, Stu Jackson of the Rams' official site reports. Murchison was cut by the Rams ahead of Week 18 back in January after he appeared in 16 regular-season games. The 28-year-old will provide depth on the defensive line after recording eight tackles (two solo), including 2.0 sacks, during the 2025 campaign.
Grant Stuard : Inks deal with Los Angeles
The Rams signed Stuard to a two-year contract worth up to $5.05 million Thursday, Aaron Wilson of KPRC 2 Houston reports. The 27-year-old linebacker is a foundational piece on special teams, which was a major area of struggle for the Rams last season. Only 12 players logged more snaps on special teams last season than Stuard, who finished with 19 tackles (six solo) across 17 regular-season contests.
