Brandon Sproat: Everything you need to know

Sproat (1-2) earned the win over San Diego on Tuesday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over 5.1 innings. Sproat held the Padres out of the scoring column until Nick Castellanos banged a two-run single against him in the fourth frame. The righty hurler then served up a solo homer to Miguel Andujar in the sixth, but Milwaukee's offense gave him enough of a cushion to grab the win. The victory was the first of Sproat's big-league career in his 12th appearance (and 10th start). His ERA on the season still sits at an unattractive 5.75, though he has plenty to build off from Monday's outing. Beyond recording the victory, Sproat racked up 15 whiffs and reached five frames for the first time in his past three outings.

Sproat didn't factor into the decision in Wednesday's 6-2 win over the Cardinals, allowing one hit and three walks over four scoreless innings. He struck out five. The young right-hander needed 76 pitches (42 strikes) to record 12 outs, getting lifted short of his first career MLB win despite having been staked to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. Sproat will take a 5.87 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 30:18 K:BB through 30.2 innings into his next outing, which is scheduled to come at home early next week against the Padres.

Sproat and the Brewers won't play the Cardinals on Tuesday, as the game was postponed due to inclement weather, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports. The two sides will play a doubleheader July 7 to make up for Tuesday's contest, and Sproat will likely get the nod to start Wednesday's series finale. The 25-year-old has struggled to begin his time with the Brewers, posting a 6.75 ERA and 1.61 WHIP through his first 26.2 innings.
