Christian Scott: Everything you need to know

Manager Carlos Mendoza announced Tuesday that Scott will be called up from Triple-A Syracuse to start Thursday's game against the Twins, Will Sammon of The Athletic reports. The right-hander surrendered six earned runs over 3.1 innings during his season debut with Syracuse on April 3, but he has a 1.74 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB over 10.1 frames in his past two Triple-A starts. Scott is now set to make his first MLB start since 2024, which is when he made his big-league debut with nine starts before requiring Tommy John surgery with an internal brace.

Scott has posted a 1.74 ERA, 0.58 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB in 10.1 innings over his last two starts for Triple-A Syracuse. In his most recent outing Wednesday, the 26-year-old right-hander fired 50 of 82 pitches for strikes but lost a showdown with top Yankees prospect Elmer Rodriguez. Scott did get tagged for six runs in 3.1 innings in his season debut after sitting out all of 2025 while recovering from elbow surgery, but his quick turnaround coincides with the struggles of David Peterson and Kodai Senga in the Mets' big-league rotation. If New York elects to shake things up after a 7-13 start to the campaign, Scott is a likely candidate to get a promotion.

The Mets optioned Scott to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday. Scott got stretched out to 56 pitches over three-plus innings in his most recent Grapefruit League start Monday, allowing three runs and striking out four Nationals batters. He generated seven whiffs with his splitter and four more with his fastball in Monday's outing. It's no surprise to see him ticketed for Triple-A to start his first full season back from Tommy John surgery, but Scott could be the first name called when the big-league rotation needs reinforcements. All told, Scott logged a 4.50 ERA, 1.67 WHIP and 8:4 K:BB in six innings during Grapefruit League play. He threw 89.2 innings in 2024 and missed all of 2025 while recovering from a hybrid Tommy John and internal brace surgery.
