The Giants optioned Walker to Triple-A Sacramento on Sunday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports. Giants manager Tony Vitello has yet to settle on a full-time closer, but Walker likely took himself out of consideration for earning save chances anytime soon after a string of poor performances. Over his last four appearances, Walker blew two saves and gave up seven earned runs on nine hits and four walks over 3.1 innings, inflating his ERA to 6.46 and his WHIP to 1.89 on the season. The right-hander will be sent to Triple-A for a reset, and if he's able to quickly rediscover the form that made him a weapon at the back end of the San Francisco bullpen over the previous three seasons, Walker may not have to wait long for a call-up.

Walker blew a save opportunity in Sunday's extra-inning loss to the Rays, allowing a run on one hit and one walk across one inning. With the Giants nursing a 1-0 lead, Walker came on to face the heart of Tampa Bay's lineup in the eighth inning. He walked Junior Caminero on seven pitches and allowed a single to Jonathan Aranda to open the frame. Ryan Vilade pushed across the tying run on a bunt play. Walker has now been scored upon in three straight outings, suffering blown saves in back-to-back appearances. His ERA has swelled to 4.61 with a 13:7 K:BB across 13.2 innings.

Walker (0-1) took the loss and blew a save opportunity in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Phillies, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out one batter over two-thirds of an inning. Logan Webb gave San Francisco seven innings of one-run ball, and Erik Miller tossed a scoreless eighth to hand Walker a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the ninth. However, the Giants' closer couldn't protect the advantage, yielding a pair of infield singles and a triple to allow two runs to score. The blown save was the second of the season across five save chances for Walker, who has registered a 4.26 ERA, 1.50 WHIP and 13:6 K:BB through 12.2 frames spanning 13 outings. He's probably still safe as San Francisco's primary saves option for the time being, though Walker doesn't have the longest leash among MLB closers.
