Curet cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Toledo, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. The 23-year-old righty has been in the minors since the beginning of the season but lost his 40-man spot Saturday to make room for Ricky Vanasco. Curet will remain in the organization after passing through waivers and look to bounce back at Toledo after giving up three runs (one earned) in just two-thirds of an inning during his lone outing.
The Tigers designated Curet for assignment Saturday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports. Curet has made just one appearance at Triple-A this season, during which he allowed three runs (one earned) while walking three batters and striking out one in two-thirds of an inning. He'll end up as the roster casualty necessary to make room for Ricky Vanasco, who was selected to the big-league squad Saturday.
The Tigers claimed Curet off waivers from the Phillies on Monday. Curet has yet to make an appearance at any level this season, though he's not believed to be dealing with any sort of injury. The Tigers have assigned the hard-throwing righty to their rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate, so they will have their coaching staff take a look at Curet before deciding how best to deploy him. Curet is expected to eventually settle at Triple-A Toledo or Double-A Erie.
