When I was a kid, I loved unpacking my stocking on Christmas morning. My mother was (and remains, for my little brother) and all-pro stocking builder. There was usually some candy to counter the new toothbrush she put in there. She always included a few Matchbox cars or packs of sports cards, too. Usually, there would be at least one game — either a card game or a travel version of a full-size game. Often there would be crazy writing implements, just for fun.
Even as an adult, stockings are still ridiculously fun to fill and open. Whether you’re making them for kids or your significant other, this is one area where you can have a lot of fun picking items. Since you’re not trying to find the perfect gift, there’s much less stress. Just pick a bunch of neat (and even goofy) things, and jam it all in there. If you don’t have the stocking itself yet, browse stocking options here.

If you’re planning on stuffing a stocking or two this year, consider our list of the 15 best stocking stuffers for Christmas.
1. Columbia River Knife and Tool 9070 Guppie Black and Grey Multitool
A proper multitool always makes a good stocking stuffer. They’re useful, they’re small, and at one time or another, almost everybody needs one. This is a particularly advanced model, which features a two-inch blade, 1/2-inch crescent wrench, Phillips and flat bit screwdrivers, removable bit carrier with LED light, bottle opener, and money clip, all built into a (non-weight-bearing) carabiner. This should get you out of most any jam. If that’s overkill, though, and you just need to focus on staying fed, check out the Eat N Tool.

2. Sriracha2Go 3-Pack
Is the hot sauce lover on your list a fanatic? Most of us are. I rarely go a meal without adding hot sauce of some variety to my dish. Sriracha has become wildly popular of late, and this reusable travel bottle comes with a carabiner to keep it handy. At 1.69 oz., it’s also TSA-approved. It ships empty, though, so you’ll have to grab a bottle to fill these up before dropping them into a stocking. The nice part is that you could opt for different sauce to go in them. May I recommend Dave’s Ghost Pepper or my personal favorite, Smokin’ Ed’s The Reaper?

3. Anker 20000mAh Portable Charger PowerCore 20100
With all the smartphones, tablets, and various other electronic goodies we use these days, a backup power supply makes a great gift. My wife still uses one daily for her iPhone 7, in part because she’s a power user and because she’s often on the move. This one from Anker features two USB ports and will charge an iPhone 7 almost seven times, the Galaxy S6 five times or the iPad mini 4 twice before it needs to be recharged. A simple, straightforward gift for the practical side of any properly stuffed stocking.

4. Amazon.com Gift Card
One clever way to fit a very, very large item into a stocking stuffer is to buy a gift card. On the envelope for the card, simply note the intended use of the funds. It’s a workaround for those times when you’ve decided to only do stockings that year. It’s also just a great way to power up the the stocking offering.

5. Yankee Candle Midsummer’s Night Vent Sticks Car Fresheners
Stockings can be good for tossing in a few disposable items that are just kind of annoying to buy yourself. These Yankee Candle sticks clip onto to the vent to circulate the scent. Midsummer’s Night is, of course, the best of the Yankee Candle scents. I highly recommend it. Each stick lasts about two weeks. A nice little add-on gift.

6. Matchbox Diecast 50 Car Pack
Like I said, every year, my mother would put two or three Matchbox cars in my stocking. This continued even into my adulthood as a sort of household tradition. Admittedly, a 50-pack might be overkill, but assuming you have a lot of stockings to fill, or you want to half-fill a few stockings with just cars, this is a handy package. If nothing else, these will provide anyone a few minutes of nostalgic fun on Christmas morning.

7. Gerber Bear Grylls Ultimate Knife, Serrated Edge
Continuing the theme from item one of stocking stuffers with purpose, this knife is made for the outdoors. Gerber makes a fine blade to begin with (I have a couple myself), but this particular model also features both a fire steel and an integrated sharpener. If it’s rugged enough for the likes of Bear Grylls (all his shows are absolutely real, right?), it’s almost certainly good enough to end up in a stocking. All joking aside, it’s meant to be a rugged knife, so consider it for those in need of such a device.

8. Mini Hario Coffee Mill Slim Grinder
If someone on your Christmas list is into coffee in a big way, having a truly excellent coffee grinder on hand can make a world of difference. Electric blade grinders are fine, but they often produce uneven grounds, which tend to extract bitterness. I’ve had many cups of coffee courtesy of this mill and can attest to the superior smoothness you get from it.

What? What’s not to love? Slinkies are great. I had several of them on my desk at work for many years. They’re great as mindless stress relievers and as design elements. A perennial stocking stuffer.

10. eTape16 ET16.75-I-RP Digital Tape Measure
When you need to be extremely accurate in your measurements, consider this digital tape measure. With three different memory functions, this product extends the usefulness of the traditional measure and gives a clear readout. Save someone on your list a lot of frustration during all their weekend projects.

11. Sterling Silver Pressed Flower Teardrop Earrings
Naturally, jewelry makes an excellent stocking stuffer. The packages tend to be small, and you can hide nicer elements down in the toe of the stocking underneath a layer of candy. This lovely pair of earrings features real Mexican pressed flowers in resin for a delicate and naturally beautiful look. The Amazon Collection even includes a matching necklace.

12. Lindt LINDOR Milk Chocolate Truffles
One of the best tricks in stocking stuffing is to fill the lower quarter with candy. Especially if, as outlined above, there’s a hidden trinket below. If the recipient doesn’t think to dump the whole thing out, there’s always another surprise in store. These Lindt truffles are great for this particular exercise. If you don’t need quite so many to accomplish the job, you can always get the 21.2 oz. package.
13. New Entertainment Desktop Skill Ball
Miniaturized, desktop versions of things are always a popular stocking stuffer. There’s the ubiquitous zen garden or the desktop beach, but this takes it to a new level. How often do you get out to play a round of Skee-ball? Now you can play it everyday, for some version of the experience. This company also makes other desktop games, such as golf and bowling.

14. Dr. Alkaitis Organic Soothing Gel
Stockings are usually a good place to include some soap, or as my mother did, a new toothbrush. But if you want to include something a bit nicer in terms of beauty items, consider this purifying facial cleanser. The soap inside is cured for six months and is good for all skin conditions.

15. SoundBot SB510 HD Water Resistant Bluetooth 3.0 Shower Speaker
The quality of Bluetooth speaker systems has continued to improve even as the price has fallen. Tiny speakers are everywhere, and many of them are quite good for the cost. Having a little shower-friendly speaker to play music from your Bluetooth-enabled device while keeping the device itself safe is pretty nifty, especially under $20. If the waterproof part isn’t the draw, but you still want something that fits in a stocking, check out the Anker Ultra Portable Pocket Size Wireless Bluetooth Speaker.
