Lou Trivino: Breaking News

Dismissed from bullpen competition

The Phillies reassigned Trivino to minor-league camp Sunday. Between big-league stops with the Giants, Dodgers and Phillies last season, Trivino accrued a 3.97 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 37:18 K:BB in 47.2 innings, but after reaching free agency this winter, he ultimately settled for a return to Philadelphia on a minor-league deal. The 34-year-old righty fell short in his bid for the Opening Day roster after he was roughed up for nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits and six walks over nine innings. Unless he chooses to opt out of his contract, Trivino is poised to begin the season as organizational relief depth at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Invited to Phillies' camp

Trivino signed a minor-league contract with the Phillies on Saturday and received an invitation to spring training, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports. Trivino finished the 2025 campaign in Philadelphia, where he allowed two earned runs over nine innings while striking out eight batters and walking five. His strong finish will buy him another opportunity with the Phillies, though it's likely he begins the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Effective with new team so far

Trivino allowed one hit and struck out one in a scoreless seventh inning Saturday against the Diamondbacks. Trivino has bounced around with three teams in 2025, but he's settled in with the Phillies nicely thus far. Through his first 6.2 innings with Philadelphia, the veteran right-hander has a 1.35 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 4:3 K:BB. Trivino may not be able to work his way into the high-leverage picture consistently, but he offers Philly's revamped bullpen another arm with late-inning experience.
