James Swanson: Breaking News

Swanson went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Monday's 9-3 loss to the Brewers. Swanson clubbed his seventh home run of the season in the fifth inning, which extended his modest hitting streak to three games. Before this recent stretch, the veteran shortstop was batting just .133 in May, and he's still under the .200 mark for the year to go along with a subpar .669 OPS. Swanson will likely be allowed to play his way out of his early-season slump, but fantasy managers may want to consider some other options in shallow formats if his struggles persist for too long.

Swanson isn't in the lineup for Saturday's game against the White Sox. Swanson snapped his four-game hitless streak with a double in Friday's contest, and he'll now receive a day to reset after posting just a .369 OPS through 53 plate appearances since the start of May. Nico Hoerner will slide to shortstop in Swanson's absence, opening up second base for Matt Shaw.

Swanson (glute) will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Friday's game versus the Diamondbacks. Swanson didn't start the Cubs' last game Wednesday due to a left glute cramp, but he's ready to go for Friday's series opener. The 32-year-old is hitting only .214 in his first 30 games this season, but the counting stats have been there with six home runs, 23 RBI, 23 runs and two stolen bases.
