Aaron Schunk: Everything you need to know

Atlanta reassigned Schunk to minor-league camp Monday. Schunk was competing for a utility infield job with Atlanta during spring training but was unable to distinguish himself while going 4-for-23 (.174 average) at the dish during Grapefruit League play. As a member of the Colorado organization last season, the 28-year-old spent most of 2025 at the Triple-A level but saw action in 16 games in the majors, slashing .188/.188/.219.

Schunk signed a minor-league contract with Atlanta on Tuesday, Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Schunk went just 6-for-32 (.188) in the big leagues in 2025, but he slashed .291/.352/.477 over 363 plate appearances with the Rockies' Triple-A affiliate. His strong minor-league performance will grant him an opportunity to carve out a role for himself in Atlanta, though he's likely to spend the majority of 2026 in Triple-A again.

Schunk cleared waivers Friday and elected to become a free agent, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports. Schunk appeared in just 16 games for the Rockies in 2025 and managed to slash just .188/.188/.219 across 33 plate appearances. His Triple-A performance (.829 OPS over 90 games) was much better, however, and could be enough to buy the 28-year-old infielder another opportunity this winter -- likely on a minor-league contract.
