Brenan Hanifee: Breaking News

The Tigers recalled Hanifee from Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Hanifee has spent the first part of the campaign with Toledo, posting a 4.91 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 12:5 K:BB over 11 innings across 10 appearances. He's likely to fill a spot in the back of the Tigers' bullpen in place of Connor Seabold (ankle), who landed on the 15-day injured list Sunday.

The Tigers optioned Hanifee to Triple-A Toledo on Tuesday, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. Hanifee was an effective member of Detroit's bullpen last year, posting a 3.00 ERA over 60 innings with the big club. He gave up four earned runs in just 5.2 innings in the Grapefruit League, however, so the Tigers will send him down to Triple-A to give him a chance to get back on track.

Hanifee has a 7.71 ERA and 1.93 WHIP across five Grapefruit League appearances. Counting his appearance Monday against the Phillies, Hanifee has now allowed a run in four of his five appearances this spring. The righty was a fairly dependable reliever for the Tigers last year, posting a 3.00 ERA across 60 regular-season innings, though he only struck out 40 batters. The lack of true swing-and-miss stuff likely limits Hanifee to a middle-relief role if he's able to make the Opening Day roster, and his fantasy impact figures to be limited in that capacity.
