Eloy Jiménez: Everything you need to know

Jimenez elected to enter free agency Saturday after clearing waivers. Jimenez was DFA'd by the Blue Jays on Wednesday, as the team needed to make room on the roster for George Springer (toe), the latter of whom returned from the 10-day injured list. Jimenez will now have the opportunity to select his next landing spot, and he should garner interest from teams looking to add another right-handed bat to the roster. Jimenez has gone 9-for-31 (.290) with three walks, three RBI and two runs scored this season.

The Blue Jays designated Jimenez for assignment Wednesday. Jimenez will cede his spot on the roster to George Springer (toe), who was reinstated from the 10-day injured list. Jimenez got a bit of run at designated hitter while Springer was out, going 9-for-31 -- all singles -- in 12 games. He'll now go through the waivers process.

Jimenez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Angels. Following a stretch of four consecutive starts at designated hitter, Jimenez will take a seat for the series finale while Vladimir Guerrero covers the DH spot and Lenyn Sosa enters the lineup at first base. Since being called up from Triple-A Buffalo on April 12, Jimenez has gone 8-for-21 (.381 average) with three walks against four strikeouts, but his opportunities remain likely to dry up once the Blue Jays get either of George Springer (toe) or Addison Barger (ankle) back from the injured list.
