Joseph Mantiply: Breaking News

Mantiply will undergo arthroscopic surgery to repair some damage in his left knee, Arden Zwelling of Sportsnet.ca reports. Mantiply was originally expected to start up a throwing program soon, but after receiving a second opinion on his knee, he decided the best path forward would be to undergo a cleanup procedure. An updated timeline for his return will likely be available after the surgery, but manager John Schneider said the operation won't force the southpaw to miss the rest of the season.

Mantiply (knee) is expected to resume throwing within the next couple of days, Ben Nicholson-Smith of Sportsnet.ca reports. Mantiply landed on the 15-day injured list this past Tuesday due to left knee inflammation. He's ready to take the next step in his recovery program, and once he gets a couple of bullpen sessions under his belt, the Blue Jays will have a better sense of when Mantiply can returned from the IL.

The Blue Jays placed Mantiply on the 15-day injured list Tuesday, retroactive to May 18, due to left knee inflammation. Mantiply presumably picked up the injury during his last appearance Sunday in Detroit, where he allowed a hit and a walk over a scoreless two-thirds of an inning. The left-hander is without an official timeline for his return but will be eligible to be reinstated in early June.
