Justin Hagenman: Everything you need to know

The Mets placed Hagenman on the 60-day injured list Saturday due to a rib fracture. Per Max Goodman of NJ.com, Hagenman started feeling soreness in his ribs after his last outing against the Nationals on March 5 and underwent imaging after the injury got worse. Hagenman's placement on the 60-day IL means he won't be available to make his 2026 regular-season until late May, but manager Carlos Mendoza relayed Saturday that the 28-year-old right-hander doesn't have an exact timeline for a return. In a corresponding move to bolster the bullpen, the Mets claimed southpaw Richard Lovelady off waivers from the Nationals.

The Mets optioned Hagenman to Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday. Hagenman did his best to save the Mets' bullpen by throwing 75 pitches during a three-inning relief appearance Tuesday in Philadelphia. Unfortunately for him, he'll now have to be replaced by a fresh relief arm.

The Mets recalled Hagenman from Triple-A Syracuse on Monday. Hagenman will provide the New York bullpen with another right-handed option who's capable of covering multiple innings, but his usage will likely be limited to lower-leverage spots. Through seven appearances (one start) with the Mets this season, Hagenman has submitted a 3.26 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 20:2 K:BB over 19.1 innings.
