Falls short of roster spot

The Phillies reassigned Peguero to minor-league camp Sunday. Peguero is expected to open the season at Triple-A Lehigh Valley after falling short in his bid for a utility spot on the Phillies' Opening Day roster. The 25-year-old went just 6-for-42 (.143 average) over 17 Grapefruit League games.

Inks minors deal with Phillies

The Phillies signed Peguero to a minor-league contract Tuesday, Aram Leighton of JustBaseball.com reports. Peguero never got settled in during his four seasons with the Pirates, slashing just .227/.278/.368 over 315 plate appearances. He'll turn just 25 next month and can play all over the infield, so Peguero could be useful organizational depth for Philadelphia.

Outrighted to Indy

Peguero cleared waivers Thursday and was sent outright to Triple-A Indianapolis, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports. Peguero spent most of 2025 in Triple-A, slashing .247/.316/.371 across 304 plate appearances. Now that he's been booted off Pittsburgh's 40-man roster, it seems likely that the 24-year-old will return to Indianapolis to begin the 2026 season.
