Rafael Marchán: Breaking News

Marchan went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 9-4 win over the White Sox. Marchan crushed a rare homer Sunday, his second of the season and the ninth of his career. The switch-hitting backstop's playing time as Philadelphia's backup catcher has been scarce in 2026, and he's slashing a pitiful .103/.141/.191 with six RBI, one walk and four runs scored across 71 plate appearances.

Marchan is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Marlins. On the bench for the second day in a row, Marchan has moved back into the No. 2 role at catcher after J.T. Realmuto was reinstated from the injured list Saturday. Before Realmuto's return, Marchan had started five of the Phillies' prior six games and went 1-for-16 at the plate over that stretch.

Marchan will start at catcher and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Cubs. Marchan will get the call behind the plate for the Phillies' first game following top backstop J.T. Realmuto's (back) placement on the injured list. Though the Phillies called up Garrett Stubbs from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to provide another option behind the plate, the playing time at catcher will likely tilt in Marchan's favor while Realmuto is on the shelf. Marchan has gone just 2-for-31 at the dish this season, but he's made one of those hits count by slugging a two-run home run.
