Roman Gonzalez: Everything you need to know

Gonzalez (shoulder) took batting practice at Fenway Park on Wednesday, WEEI reports. It's the first time Gonzalez has hit on the field since he underwent arthroscopic left shoulder surgery in March. Though the Red Sox have not divulged a target date for Gonzalez's rehab assignment, it seems one could be around the corner.

Gonzalez (shoulder) has started hitting flips, MLB.com reports. Gonzalez is taking short underhand flips from in close and at low velocity as he begins to get his timing back. At some point, he'll graduate to hitting off a machine and then live pitching. Gonzalez is aiming to return at some point next month.

The Red Sox placed Gonzalez (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list Thursday, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports. The move opens up a 40-man roster spot for new lefty reliever Danny Coulombe, who was signed to a one-year deal in a corresponding move. Gonzalez has been sidelined for the entirety of spring training due to shoulder inflammation that will now require a "left shoulder arthroscopic debridement" operation, per Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com. With Gonzalez set to miss at least the first two months of the regular season, Kristian Campbell, Nate Eaton and Andruw Monasterio will be competing for at-bats and playing time.
