Nikola Topić: Breaking News

Topic (back) underwent surgery Saturday and is expected to be ready for the start of training camp, Justin Martinez of The Oklahoman reports. With the Thunder's season over, Topic underwent a minimally invasive lumbar microdiscectomy procedure, and the operation shouldn't impact his availability for the start of the 2026-27 campaign. The guard played sparingly during the postseason after appearing in 10 regular-season games for Oklahoma City, averaging 5.2 points, 4.4 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 16.0 minutes per contest.

Topic did not see the floor in Saturday's 111-103 loss to the Spurs in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals. Topic appeared in nine games this postseason, though he never logged more than six garbage-time minutes. The 20-year-old missed the entire 2024-25 season due to a partial ACL tear in his left knee that required surgery. He returned to action during the 2025 Summer League but was later diagnosed with testicular cancer after making one preseason appearance. Topic ultimately made his NBA regular-season debut Feb. 12 and averaged 5.2 points, 4.4 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 16.0 minutes per showing across 10 regular-season games (two starts) in 2025-26.

Topic won't start in Sunday's game against Phoenix, Clemente Almanza of USA Today reports. Topic started in Oklahoma City's final two games of the regular season, most recently recording 18 points, four rebounds and 14 assists across 39 minutes versus the Suns on April 12. With the Thunder's starters healthy to begin the playoffs, Topic will move back to the bench while potentially dropping out of the rotation altogether.
