The Panthers are slated to sign Harris to a contract Tuesday, David Newton of ESPN reports. Harris inks with Carolina in the wake of star defensive lineman Derrick Brown (knee) suffering a potentially season-ending meniscus injury. The 29-year-old Harris figures to contribute at outside linebacker for the Panthers, so he doesn't directly fill the void left by Brown, but he'll work to bolster the team's defensive front against the Chargers on Sunday. Injuries have limited Harris to 19 regular-season appearances over the last two years.
Leota recorded four total tackles (all solo), including 1.0 sack, during Sunday's 47-10 loss to the Saints. Leota notched the first sack of his young career during Sunday's blowout loss and was the only Panther to bring down Derek Carr. Carolina was searching for an edge rusher opposite Jadeveon Clowney while D.J. Wonnum (quadriceps) remains on the PUP list, and Leota's performance in Week 1 likely gives him the edge over DJ Johnson. Leota could see more work in Week 2 after splitting first-team reps with Johnson on Sunday.
Hubbard rushed six times for 14 yards during Sunday's 47-10 loss to the Saints. Despite finishing second on the Panthers in rushing yards Sunday, Hubbard out-carried (six to five) and out-snapped (32 to 22) Miles Sanders, who logged 22 rushing yards. Hubbard appears to be the lead back in Carolina, but he could still struggle to see touches if the Panthers are forced to play from behind, as they were Sunday. He'll look to improve on a poor 2024 debut in Week 2 as the Panthers host the Chargers, who allowed just 71 total rushing yards in Week 1.
Pineiro made one field goal and one extra point during Sunday's 47-10 loss to the Saints. The third-year Panther was was perfect Sunday, drilling his only field-goal and extra-point attempts. Pineiro has proved to be reliable during his time in Carolina, making almost 91% of his field-goal and extra-point tries since joining the Panthers in 2022. Next up for the Pineiro and the Panthers will be a Week 2 matchup with the Chargers in Carolina.
Moore caught one of his three targets for 14 yards during Sunday's 47-10 loss to the Saints. Moore was on the field for just 19 offensive snaps during Sunday's loss, but he was targeted three times, catching one ball for 14 yards. The Panthers' air-attack struggled as a whole struggled in Week 1, as Bryce Young threw for just 161 yards and two picks on 30 passing attempts. Moore ranked fifth among Carolina's wide receivers in offensive snaps played in Week 1, so it appears he'll struggle to be fantasy-relevant in his first season with the Panthers, unless injuries occur.
Matthews failed to haul in his only target during Sunday's 47-10 loss to the Saints. Matthews served as the Panthers' No. 2 tight end behind Ja'Tavion Sanders with Ian Thomas (calf) and Tommy Tremble (hamstring) out in Week 1, but Matthews failed to produce whatsoever. The 32-year-old was was unable to haul in his one target Sunday, playing 20 offensive snaps. Given Carolina's immense offensive struggles Sunday, it appears unlikely that Matthews will be fantasy-relevant in 2024.
Sanders caught his only target for four yards during Sunday's 47-10 loss to the Saints. The rookie tight end out of Texas saw increased opportunities with Ian Thomas (calf) and Tommy Tremble (hamstring) both missing Sunday's contest. Sanders played 43 offensive snaps, 23 more than any other tight end for Carolina, but that workload didn't lead to much production, as Sanders struggled along with the rest of the Panthers' offense. He caught a four-yard pass in the first quarter, but wasn't targeted for the rest of Sunday's affair.
