Goldschmidt is not in the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Athletics. The Athletics are sending left-hander Jeffrey Springs to the bump, but the Yankees are going with lefty Ben Rice at first base rather than the righty-swinging Goldschmidt. It's only the second lefty the Yanks have faced thus far, and Goldschmidt was in the lineup the first time, but the team will give Rice his chances against lefties this season on occasion.

Paul Goldschmidt: Breaking News
Belts three-run homer in win
Goldschmidt went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Wednesday's 5-3 win against Seattle. The veteran first baseman drew a rare start versus a right-hander with Giancarlo Stanton getting the day off, launching his first homer of the campaign. Goldschmidt is still expected to see most of his playing time come against left-handed pitching in 2026, as Ben Rice is set to handle the bulk of the reps at first base going forward while Stanton receives the majority of the action at designated hitter.
Back with Pinstripes
Goldschmidt signed a one-year contract with the Yankees on Friday, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. Goldschmidt was underwhelming overall during his first season in the Bronx but excelled against southpaws, slashing .336/.411/.570 across 168 regular-season plate appearances against lefties in 2025. The Yankees likely plan to take advantage of his dominance versus left-handers and use the 38-year-old in the short side of a platoon with Ben Rice at first base.
