Harrison Holmes: Everything you need to know

Holmes is no longer scheduled to start Wednesday's game against the Mariners, as Martin Perez is now slated to take the hill for Atlanta in the series finale in Seattle. According to Mark Bowman of MLB.com, the change in the pitching schedule doesn't necessarily mean that Holmes will be heading to the bullpen on a permanent basis, and Atlanta could even steer clear of using him in relief Wednesday if the team wants him to make a start during the three-game series in Los Angeles this weekend. Atlanta may just have wanted to give Holmes a bit of a reset after he failed to reach six innings in three of his last four starts while pitching to a 5.95 ERA, 1.93 WHIP and 15:9 K:BB during that span.

Holmes didn't factor into the decision Friday against the Rockies, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks across five innings. He struck out four. This was far from Holmes' best outing, though the expectations weren't very high considering the disadvantage that Coors Field represents from a pitching perspective. The reality is that Holmes has been trending in the wrong direction, as he has just one quality start over his last four outings. During that stretch, the right-hander has a 5.95 ERA and 1.53 WHIP with a 15:9 K:BB across 19.2 innings. He's scheduled to make his next start on the road against the Mariners next week.

Holmes (2-1) picked up the win Friday against the Phillies, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts across six innings. Holmes notched his third quality start of the season but has allowed multiple runs in five of six outings to begin the 2026 campaign. The right-hander was able to mostly limit the damage, surrendering a pair of homers to Trea Turner and Bryce Harper to account for the three runs. Holmes will carry a 3.62 ERA and 25:14 K:BB across 32.1 innings into his next start.
