Seth Martinez: Everything you need to know

The Red Sox signed Martinez to a minor-league contract Friday that includes an invitation to spring training, Andrew Parker of SoxProspects.com reports. Martinez has produced a 4.00 ERA and 126:57 K:BB over 144 innings covering parts of five major-league seasons. The 31-year-old will try to win a spot in the Boston bullpen but is likely ticketed for Triple-A Worcester to begin the 2026 campaign.

Martinez elected free agency Saturday after clearing waivers. Rather than remaining in the Miami organization as relief depth at Triple-A Jacksonville after being pushed off the 40-man roster, Martinez will head to the open market in search of a new opportunity. In six appearances for the big club this season, Martinez has posted a 5.40 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 4:3 K:BB in 6.2 innings.

The Marlins designated Martinez for assignment Thursday. Martinez has made six appearances since joining the active roster Aug. 27, during which he's coughed up four earned runs across 6.2 innings. He'll now lose his place on the MLB and 40-man rosters to make room for Ryan Weathers' (lat) return from the 60-day IL.
