Jordan Love: Breaking News

Tosses four TDs in playoff loss

Love completed 24 of 46 passes for 323 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions while adding one rush for 11 yards in the Packers' 31-27 wild-card loss to the Bears on Saturday. He also fumbled once but recovered. Love was cooking over the first two quarters of Saturday's wild-card matchup, connecting on first-half touchdown passes of seven, 18 and one yard to Christian Watson, Jayden Reed and Romeo Doubs, respectively. Following a quiet, scoreless third quarter, Love capped off a six-play, 54-yard drive with a 23-yard scoring toss to Matthew Golden that answered a Bears TD just past the midway point of the final period. However, Love couldn't counter either of Caleb Williams' two subsequent scoring strikes, although a Brandon McManus missed field goal and a pair of late drops didn't do the veteran signal-caller any favors. Love also mishandled the snap on the final play, which seemed to disrupt his timing and led to some frantic scrambling before he threw incomplete into the end zone as time expired. The furious comeback by the Bears -- the largest in Chicago's postseason history -- sends the Packers into the offseason with an extremely sour taste, but Love enjoyed a solid third year as a starter where he completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 3,381 yards with a 23:6 TD:INT and added a 47-199-0 rushing line and seven fumbles (two lost) across 15 regular-season games.

Confirmed for wild-card start

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur confirmed that Love will serve as the team's starting quarterback in Saturday's wild-card game in Chicago, Matt Schneidman of The Athletic reports. After sustaining a concussion in the second quarter of the Packers' Week 16 loss to the Bears, Love missed Green Bay's Week 17 loss to the Ravens before clearing the protocol the following week. However, because the Packers were already locked into the No. 7 seed in the NFC playoffs entering Week 18 action, Love was active but served as a backup to third-string quarterback Clayton Tune in this past Sunday's loss to the Vikings. According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, LaFleur noted that Love still got in a "mostly normal amount of practice work" last week despite not playing against Minnesota, leaving the Packers confident about where Love stands in his preparation for the wild-card round. Love will benefit from another full week of practice leading up to Saturday's contest and will be aided by the expected return of right tackle Zach Tom (back), whom LaFleur said will be available to play against the Bears after missing the Packers' final three games of the regular season, per Schneidman.

Active Sunday, but backing up Tune

Love is listed as active Sunday in Minnesota, and he'll serve as the No. 2 QB behind starter Clayton Tune with Malik Willis (right shoulder/hamstring) inactive, Mike Spofford of the Packers' official site reports. Love cleared the concussion protocol Thursday, and at the same time coach Matt LaFleur announced that Tune would be Green Bay's starter under center for Week 18. After the team chose not to elevate Desmond Ridder from the practice squad Saturday, Love and Willis remained as the considerations for backup duties Sunday. Love's name was called over Willis, perhaps due to Willis still tending to right shoulder and hamstring injuries. Love thus has a chance for his first game action since the second quarter of a Week 16 loss at Chicago.
