Brandon Smith: Everything you need to know

The Steelers signed Smith to a reserve/future contract Thursday, Teresa Varley of the team's official site reports. Smith ended the 2025 season on the Patriots' practice squad after spending the majority of the campaign with the Jets organization. He joined the NFL in May of 2021 as an undrafted free agent and has appeared in three regular-season games, all of which came over the last two years with the Jets. Smith will be a part of the Steelers' 90-man roster when the offseason begins Feb. 9, which affords him the opportunity to participate in OTAs, minicamp and training camp.

New England cut Smith from the practice squad Tuesday. Smith inked with the Patriots' practice squad late December but wasn't ultimately elevated for a single game with the team. His spot on the practice squad has now been replaced by veteran wideout Trent Sherfield.

The Patriots signed Smith to the practice squad Tuesday. Smith was waived from the Jets' practice squad Dec. 2. The former Jet may have a chance for a revenge game this Sunday, as the wide receiver is a prime candidate for practice squad elevation with Kayshon Boutte (concussion) and DeMario Douglas (hamstring) both nursing injuries ahead of the contest.
