Sherwood and the Jets agreed on a three-year, $45 million contract with $30 million fully guaranteed Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Sherwood will stick around New York after spending the first four years of his career with the Jets, most recently compiling a career-high 158 total tackles (98 solo), including 2.0 sacks, over 17 regular-season games in 2024. With fellow middle linebacker C.J. Mosley (neck) expected to return in 2025 after missing 13 games in 2024, Sherwood may see a dip in production following his impressive year.

Signs new deal with New York

Sherwood and the Jets agreed on a three-year, $45 million contract with $30 million fully guaranteed Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Sherwood will stick around New York after spending the first four years of his career with the Jets, most recently compiling a career-high 158 total tackles (98 solo), including 2.0 sacks, over 17 regular-season games in 2024. With fellow middle linebacker C.J. Mosley (neck) expected to return in 2025 after missing 13 games in 2024, Sherwood may see a dip in production following his impressive year.
Breaks out ahead of free agency

Sherwood finished the 2024 season with 2.0 sacks among his 158 tackles (98 solo), as well as three passes defensed. After playing primarily as a backup for three years, Sherwood stepped up in his fourth NFL campaign as fellow middle linebacker C.J. Mosley (neck) was limited to only four appearances. Sherwood led the NFL in solo tackles, enjoying a well-timed breakout as the 2021 fifth-round draft pick gets ready to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason. Given Mosley's advanced age and injury troubles, the Jets will likely be interested in re-signing Sherwood.
Has nice day at Buffalo

Sherwood recorded 10 tackles (five solo) and a pass defensed during Sunday's 40-14 loss against the Bills. Sherwood has been on a tackling tear as of late, and he has now posted eight-plus tackles in four straight games. Only Indianapolis' Zaire Franklin (165) and Arizona's Budda Baker (155) have more tackles on the season than Sherwood (152) going into the Jets' matchup versus the Dolphins in Week 18.
Leading tackler in Week 16

Sherwood recorded eight total tackles (six solo) in Sunday's 19-9 loss to the Rams. Sherwood has now led the Jets' defense in tackles over each of their last three games, accumulating 35 total stops over that span. The fourth-year pro from Auburn has taken a huge step forward this season, setting career highs in total tackles (142), sacks (2.0) and passes defended (two) over 15 appearances. Expect Sherwood to remain one of the NFL's top tacklers and continue making plays as the Jets face the Bills in Week 17.
Leading tackler in win

Sherwood recorded nine tackles (six solo) during the Jets' win over the Jaguars on Sunday. Sherwood continues to produce for the Jets as he once again led the team in tackles and has now racked up a combined 27 stops (19 solo) in the past two games. His 134 tackles (84 solo) are now tied with Zack Baun for the third most in the league.
Tackle machine in Week 14

Sherwood finished with 18 tackles (13 solo) and a pass breakup in Sunday's 32-26 loss to the Dolphins. The middle linebacker topped his previous season high of 17 stops in Week 10 against the Cardinals. Sherwood is now tied for fourth in the league with 125 tackles (78 solo). He has also played on at least 96 percent of the defensive snaps in all but two games this season.
Minimal production in Week 13

Sherwood recorded four solo tackles in Sunday's 26-21 loss to Seattle. Sherwood was limited to just four tackles against the Seahawks, his lowest total since Week 1 in San Francisco. With C.J. Mosley (neck) on the cusp of returning to the field, Sherwood will likely operate in a less significant role in the near future.
Massive tackle output in Week 10

Sherwood recorded 17 total tackles (seven solo), including one tackle for loss, in Sunday's 31-6 loss to the Cardinals. Sherwood's 17-tackle effort in Sunday's loss made him the NFL's fourth-leading tackler, having now recorded 97 total stops through the Jets' first 10 games this season. The Auburn product has already blown away his previous season high of 46 total tackles, and he's expected to remain one of the Jets' defensive bright spots as the season progresses.
Sacks Stroud twice in Week 9

Sherwood finished Thursday's 21-13 win over the Texans with seven solo tackles, including 2.0 sacks. Sherwood finished Thursday's contest tied with Quincy Williams for second-most tackles on the Jets behind Jalen Mills (10). Sherwood had been held without a sack heading into Week 9, but he managed to get to C.J. Stroud twice, both of which took place in the second half. Through the first nine games of the regular season, Sherwood has logged 80 tackles (50 solo), including 2.0 sacks, and one pass breakup.
