Signs reserve/future contract
Knight signed a reserve/future contract with the Cardinals on Tuesday. The running back also spent time with the Jets' practice squad in 2024 before joining the Cardinals, though he did not appear in any regular-season games. Knight played on eight offensive snaps for the Lions in 2023 and carried the ball three times for 13 yards. Now, he'll get a chance to compete for a role with Arizona during the team's offseason program.
Back with Jets
The Jets signed Knight to their practice squad Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Knight spent 2023 and the 2024 offseason with the Lions, but he was cut by Detroit back in August. Prior to his tenure with the Lions, Knight played in seven games, making four starts, for the Jets in 2022, rushing 85 times for 300 yards and one touchdown, adding 13-100-0 as a receiver. He'll serve as organizational depth for New York.
Dropped by Detroit
Knight was waived by the Lions on Monday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. Knight is headed to waivers after rushing the ball three times for 13 yards in two games for Detroit last season. With Jahmyr Gibbs (hamstring) and Craig Reynolds (leg) both dealing with injuries, Knight could land on the practice squad if he clears waivers.
Healthy to start camp
Knight (shoulder) has been cleared to practice at the start of training camp, Nolan Bianchi of the Detroit News reports. Knight suffered a torn labrum last season and spent the final three months on injured reserve. He's competing for a roster spot behind David Montgomery, Jahmyr Gibbs and Craig Reynolds this summer.
Recovery going well
Knight (shoulder) has been a limited participant in Lions' OTAs, Dave Birkett of The Detroit Free Press reports. Knight sustained a torn labrum and missed the Lions' final 12 games in 2023, but he's been cleared for seven-on-seven and light team work as of last week. The 23-year-old running back has also been ramping up his workload in hopes of returning for Detroit's mandatory minicamp. Once Knight is back at full health, he's expected to compete for a depth spot in the Lions' backfield ahead of the 2024 season.
