Von Miller: Breaking News

Planning to play in 2026

Miller expects to sign with a team and play in 2026, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Miller remains a free agent ahead of what would be his 16th season in the NFL, but he stated that he is "for sure" playing for somebody this season. The 37-year-old has apparently attempted to lobby current Broncos head coach Sean Payton to bring Miller back to Denver this season, but nothing has materialized quite yet. Miller is coming off of a 2025 campaign during which he played in all 17 regular-season contests with the Commanders, compiling 26 total tackles (16 solo), including 9.0 sacks, which were his highest amount in a single season since 2018.

Bumps career sack total up to 138.5

Miller recorded 9.0 sacks among his 26 tackles (16 solo) while suiting up for all 17 games in the 2025 regular season. Miller has been reduced to a situational pass rusher at age 36, but he proved effective in that role for the Commanders, increasing his career regular-season sack total to 138.5 with his highest single-season mark in that category since 2021. He notched a sack in four of his last five games, but it remains to be seen if the Super Bowl 50 MVP wants to go out on that note or chooses to chase another championship by signing with a more competitive team in 2026.

Expected to join Commanders

Miller and the Commanders are finalizing terms of a one-year contract Wednesday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports. Miller was released by the Bills in March but made clear that he wanted to continue his playing career. A short-term deal makes sense given that he's entering his age-36 season, as does the fact that he's joining a team that has a realistic chance of reaching the postseason. The Commanders had a relative weakness at edge and pass rush entering training camp, so Miller should be a significant lift to the unit after logging 6.0 sacks across 13 regular-season games in 2024.
